Fashion business is holding a cautious, yet optimistic attitude towards the economic trends. During Milan Fashion Week, which ended January 19, many designers and executives talked about signs of improvement in the luxury sector, forecasting a tepid recovery for Italian menswear. “We are seeing positive signals. The (sales) haemorrhage seen at the end of 2008 and in the first half of 2009 has stopped, ” said Gianluca Brozzetti, chief executive of Roberto Cavalli. Targeting the cautious buyer in the hope that the sector will pick up again this year, designers went for a more laid-back chic style, highlighting “the message of value and heritage” in their winter proposals . A more value for money marketing message that we’ll probably see more of during the upcoming fashion shows.
