Brazil Brings in the Supermodels

by Filipa Oliveira

For a few days, Brazil brought back the 90’s golden era with Top Supermodels making the news in the fashion circle – Gisele Bundchen, Raquel Zimmermann and Eva Herzigova headed to Latin America’s premier fashion event to own the runway at São Paulo Fashion Week (SPFW).

Just six months after giving birth, Gisele returned to the catwalk last weekend, revealing her fantastic new figure in Colcci’s Spring/Summer 2010-2011 collection. Although modeling is a talent that nobody can’t take from her, the Top model confessed some anxiety on her come back to the runway “I was very nervous” she has said to Brazilian online newspaper Estado de São Paulo. “But I am very happy, everything went right.” And according to recent reports, the fashion crowd got what they went to see.

Raquel Zimmermann, another Brazilian beauty, didn’t fail to impress. Returning has face of Animale Summer collection, Zimmermann walked the runway, showing the world why she’s one of the top-paid models in the fashion industry. A favourite amongst top fashion designers – including Karl Lagerfeld – , it’s easy to understand why she keeps returning to Brazil Fashion Week: “I have faith and I believe that Brazil will achieve a high standard in fashion circles. I know that it’s still not there yet—you can’t compare it to Paris or Milan—but it’s growing, and like Portugal, like Spain, so many countries are getting into the international markets and I think Brazil is. There are two Brazilian designers that are doing really well outside Brazil. Pedro Lourenço is doing really well in Paris, and Alexandre Herchcovitch in New York, so I believe Brazil will get there!”

And finally, Eva Herzigova, the wonderbra wonder woman that requires no further introduction. Taking the catwalk at Adriana Degreas Summer show, the Czech Supermodel “looked fierce” and fabulous at the age of 37 – someone has definitely been working hard to keep her body in runway shape.

Oh, and by the way, Paris Hilton has also strutted her stuff at SPFW, as a special finale to the Triton Spring/Summer show – the girl may not be a Supermodel, but she definitely knows how to hit a front page story.
