Jean Charles de Castelbajac to Invade Selfridges

by Filipa Oliveira

Is London ready for a close encounter? Following in the footsteps of Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood and Louis Vuitton, legendary French designer Jean Charles de Castelbajac is taking over the Selfridges windows at Oxford Street. Under the theme An Encounter of the Fifth Kind, Castelbajac will tell a story of “an alien invasion of the city”, using five sci-fi-inspired window displays. An out of this world tribute to the man that helped kicked off the 70’s punk revolution - “I would like to dedicate my window’s works to my dear friend Malcolm McLaren, who was an alien in the world of rock ‘n’ roll”, Castelbajac told Vogue UK. “I am thrilled to prepare this beautiful installation event with Selfridges, because I think it is the only department store in the world which seems to be curated like a contemporary art museum”.

According to WWD, the designer will also set up a pop-up boutique in the Wonder Room to showcase his RTW collections (including his namesake line and the JC/DC range), as well as homeware and limited edition products specially produced for the British department store. Setup a stakeout and catch the aliens in action from April 30th to June 30th.

In the meanwhile get caught up on Jean Charles de Castelbajac’s latest fashion masterpieces for Lady Gaga and Beyoncé’s Telephone music video:
